Caritas delegation present at World Youth Day 2023

A delegation of 17 young people from the 7 regions that make up the Caritas confederation will participate in the World Youth Day, which will take place from August 1 to 6 in Lisbon, Portugal. The aim of your participation is to promote the mission of Caritas to a global audience, connect young people with their local Caritas, as well as strengthen the relationship with the dicasteries for the laity, families and life.

Paola Oviedo, coordinator of humanitarian projects at Cáritas Mexicana and representative of the Cáritas youth group in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean, explained through a video that WYD represents a strategic opportunity for us, as Cáritas, “to promote our work among millions of young people and community leaders who can influence their communities.”

Seed of the future world

Six days before World Youth Day, this Thursday, July 27, through the Pope's World Prayer Network, Pope Francis sent a message to the young people who will gather in Lisbon, where he points out that "the Church is not a club for the elderly, nor is it a youth club. If it becomes something for old people, it will die."

The Bishop of Rome also shares that during WYD he wants to see “in Lisbon a seed of the world of the future.” That is, “a world where love is at the center, where we can feel like sisters and brothers.”
