Cáritas Chile and Valparaíso join forces in a solidarity and fundraising campaign against forest fires
Faced with the devastation caused by the recent forest fires in the region of Valparaíso, Chile, Pope Francis has expressed his deep concern and has called on the community to unite in prayer for the victims and injured. The tragedy has left at least 99 lives lost and a thousand homes destroyed, until the end of Sunday, 04.
In an act of solidarity with the affected communities, Cáritas Chile and Cáritas Valparaíso have launched the campaign "Once again in solidarity with the Valparaíso region". The main objective is to raise funds to coordinate responses to the damage and needs detected in collaboration with the affected communities, especially in Viña del Mar, Quilpué and Villa Alemana.
In line with these efforts, the Environment, Risk Management and Emergencies Program (MAGRE) of Cáritas Chile has been actively working on preventive measures in the affected area, collaborating closely with the diocese of Valparaíso to evaluate the magnitude of the disaster and plan actions future.
Two collection centers have been established in Viña del Mar and Quilpué, intended to receive non-perishable food, personal hygiene items and household cleaning products. The management of the funds raised will be the responsibility of Cáritas Chile, thus contributing to the humanitarian response, recovery and reconstruction processes, with the commitment to offer continuous support beyond immediate aid.
