Cáritas Uruguaya celebrates its annual assembly last Saturday, April 27

The holding of assemblies in entities such as Cáritas is of utmost importance to guarantee transparency, participation and democratic decision-making. These meetings allow members to express their opinions, discuss relevant issues and actively contribute to the direction and management of the organization.

In addition, assemblies are essential to strengthen cohesion among members, promote the accountability of leaders and ensure that the actions undertaken by the entity truly reflect the interests and needs of its base.

On April 27, Cáritas Uruguaya held its National Assembly in Montevideo. The meeting was attended by all the dioceses, with the exception of Salto, as well as the attendance of the Laudato Si' Movement and representatives of the Center for Social Doctrines of the Catholic Church (CEDIDOSC).

The day included moments of spiritual reflection, echoes in groups and dynamic plenaries, shared experiences, all motivated by the motto “that no one be left out of the party and the meeting, how do we receive our migrant brothers in the communities?” The narrative and financial report for 2023 was also presented and was approved unanimously by the delegates present. Reference was also made to upcoming national activities.

For the national director, Agustina Langwagen, activities like this help to renew commitment to the Cáritas mission.

“Especially after the pandemic, meeting diocesan delegates in person is usually a very mobilizing instance, not only in terms of reflecting on our work, sharing evaluations and projections, but especially from what gives meaning and unites us as a community of service.”

The second block of the afternoon was dedicated to a dialogue table with the participation of: Father Wilnie Jean and Father Febri Samar members. of the Congregation of the Missionaries of San Carlos - Scalabrinianos; Marialis, consecrated of the Slave Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Member of the Paz y Bien Shelter Home and the Jesuit Migrant Service; Wally Veneri, also a member of the Paz y Bien Shelter Home, and Patricia Vespa belonging to Cáritas de Maldonado. All of them shared their experience in their different activities with Migrants. Valuable learning was generated and strategies were discussed to contribute positively in this area.

Finally, the day closed with a beautiful musical number performed by the Alpargatas Sin Fronteras Dance Group.
